A Rose with Starry Eyes

{February 13, 2010}   quote of the day

“I still battle with my deeply boring diet of, essentially, yogurt and breakfast cereal and granola bars. I hate dieting. I hate having to do it to be the ‘right’ size. I’m hungry all the time. I think I’m a slender person, but the industry apparently doesn’t. All actresses are hungry all the time, I think.”

~Julianne Moore

Elaborated upon under the cut.

It’s refreshing to hear such honesty coming from an actress who has not only had as long and illustrious a career as Julianne Moore has had, but who is older and still looks fabulous. It’s discouraging to see young women looking so much older than their actual age because they crash diet and don’t get healthy-thin the way Moore does!

So basically:

  • focus on yogurt, breakfast cereal, granola bars. (thought: it’s good because it contains a lot of fiber, but isn’t that a lot of carbs? yogurt is good low-cal calcium, but off-limits in veganism. what types of breakfast cereal? granola bars are good, but clif bars are a better substitute.)
  • even if you think you’re slender in real life, or are thin compared to the average women around you, Hollywood will disagree. (this also seems to be like a bit of a given, but it’s good to remember when you feel like slacking: the standard is different in the Big Leagues!)
  • don’t expect to feel full. (realize that the hunger you feel as your stomach contorts is actually your body realizing that it can live off fat for fuel rather than always demanding more. // if you’re hungry, use that as a tool. a motivator for a workout, an excuse to focus more on school, to study the part even more extensively- you put all this effort into looking great, are you REALLY going to fuck it up by being lazy in the acting?!)
  • all actresses are hungry all the time. (are YOU hungry all the time? no? then you’re not an actress!)
